It's the most wonderful time of year again for Mount Union's football team. The Purple Raiders held off Johns Hopkins 45-37 on Saturday to reach the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl for the 23rd time. They will face North Central or Susquehanna on Jan. 5 in Houston for the NCAA Division III national championship.

Tyler Echeverry rushed for 183 yards and three touchdowns for Mount Union (14-0). Darnell Williams, Shaun Thomas and quarterback TJ DeShields also ran for TDs. DeShields threw for 218 yards. Tyrell Sanders also caught seven passes for 148 yards. The Purple Raiders will attempt to win their first national title since 2018 and their 14th overall.

The Mount Union Purple Raiders are gearing up to host Johns Hopkins this Saturday in the 2024 NCAA Semifinals, setting the stage for a high-stakes showdown.

For Johns Hopkins (12-1), the road to the semifinals has been nothing short of a nail-biter. The Blue Jays have edged out three hard-fought victories, including a 17-14 win over Grove City, a gritty 14-9 battle with DePauw, and another 17-14 triumph against Mary Hardin-Baylor.

On the flip side, Mount Union’s playoff journey has been relatively smooth sailing. The Purple Raiders (13-0) cruised past John Carroll with a commanding 42-7 victory after enjoying a first-round bye. They followed that up by staving off Carnegie Mellon in a tighter 24-19 contest and then dispatching Salisbury with a convincing 38-17 win.asdsadsad
