On3 has decided not to renew my contract when they take over from Rivals, so my 15-year run with The Wave Report is about to end. This absolutely was not my choice and was forced on me. They said I no longer had enough subscribers to make it worthwhile for them. The end date will be either June 30--their preferred choice--or July 18, which legally they might have to adhere to. This stinks on so many levels. I don't even know what to say.

Obviously, though, this is my fault. I simply did not find the time to do a good enough job on recruiting to make people want to fork over a little more than $100 per year. I was very proud of the practice reports and interviews I provided, which were content you could not get anywhere else, but ultimately that was not deemed good enough by subscribers. It did not help that when I tried to promote the site on twitter in the past, Troy Dannen told people he was considering revoking my credentials because he he hated the recruiting web sites and did not think they should be allowed inside, but again, that's assigning blame outside of where it primarily belong--on me directly.

I do not know what On3 plans to do about a Tulane website not involving me. Clearly, the upward mobility of the football program warrants one, and maybe they will find someone (or a group) willing to do it as a full-time occupation, as Scott Kushner did for a while when he had this site booming despite the athletic program struggling across the board, rather than a part-time gig.
