This was a terrific weekend for Tulane baseball. Other than Rankin (will we see him again this year?), our pitching was exceptional. We shut out one of the best hitting teams in college baseball and only allowed them one earned run in 26 innings, not counting the ninth inning on Saturday. Even counting that ninth inning debacle, six earned runs in 27 innings is not too shabby either.

Other than Hope's error to lead off the game on Saturday, our defense was also stellar. We made a number of really good plays and, other than the one error, didn't botch any routine opportunities.

We ran the bases as though we knew what we were doing, though our bunting has regressed badly. We're four of our last eight in successfully laying down a sacrifice bunt, and that's not counting fouling off several attempts that put us into the hole at bat.

And, at least on Sunday, we showed the capability of hitting the lower end of a team's pitching staff. Our eleven hits was the most since the midweek game against Nichols and the Saturday game against ECU when we face their normal Sunday starter. Of the eleven games in which we produced ten or more hits this year, eight were against Sunday or mid-week pitching. Two of the other three were against Pepperdine to open the season. We need to do better against the Friday and Saturday starters.

One game or one weekend does not make a season, but this was fun.
