Stephen Alemais is such a terrific fielder at shortstop … except when he's not.

Yesterday he made two errors, and the second one was critical as Houston scored twice to go ahead 3-2 after Tulane had gone up 2-1 in a game it eventually lost in the bottom of the ninth.

Alemais has 14 errors now, which is far too many and only two shy of his season total from last year.

Tulane needs to win the final two games of this series to climb out of the cellar in the American Athletic Conference, but that's asking a lot. More likely the Wave and Cougars will split the final two games, leaving Tulane at 3-6 in the league with three series losses. The Wave is all alone in last place at 2-5 right now.

Only one team in the AAC is more than a game above .500 in conference action--South Florida, which is 6-1 after winning its opener against East Carolina. UCF lost to UConn yesterday, falling to 3-4 and proving once again it is in the top 25 by proclamation rather than performance.

Tulane is not playing poorly, but the Wave has to start backing up its performance with wins. Emerson Gibbs will pitch this afternoon in a game that has been moved up to 2 because of impending rain.
