The Northeast Raiders are looking to claim their first state championship in school history. They are facing off against Toombs County at 1 p.m. on Tuesday. Before that several other teams from around the state are set to play on Monday.
The Raiders beat Swainsboro in the first round at home by a score of 46-7. Then Northeast knocked off Lamar County 21-10 in the second round before taking down the No. 1 seed in the state, Fannin County in the third round in a high scoring affair on the road. The Raiders returned home last week to take on Fitzgerald. The Raiders won 46-14 to book their first trip to the title game.
On the other side, the Toombs County Bulldogs have won 5 straight games including a road wins in the playoffs over Dublin.
13WMAZ will have scores from all the state title games and highlights from Northeast’s first state title game appearance.
Head coach Franklin Stephens’ team is up for the challenge.
“You know, the thing about it is not to lose focus. The game is to focus. I think our guys have done a great job thus far and it’s just got to maintain that and be ready to go tomorrow. This is the third time the school has got an opportunity to play in the football state championship. And as always, I know we will use this word probably to look up a new word for excitement, but we’re very excited about this opportunity, Stephens said.
